Title: Omens
Author: Kelley Armstrong
Series Number: 1
Release Date: August 20, 2013

Goodreads Summary:

Twenty-four-year-old Olivia Taylor Jones has the perfect life. The only daughter of a wealthy, prominent Chicago family, she has an Ivy League education, pursues volunteerism and philanthropy, and is engaged to a handsome young tech firm CEO with political ambitions.

But Olivia’s world is shattered when she learns that she’s adopted. Her real parents? Todd and Pamela Larsen, notorious serial killers serving a life sentence. When the news brings a maelstrom of unwanted publicity to her adopted family and fiancĂ©, Olivia decides to find out the truth about the Larsens.

Olivia ends up in the small town of Cainsville, Illinois, an old and cloistered community that takes a particular interest in both Olivia and her efforts to uncover her birth parents’ past.

Aided by her mother’s former lawyer, Gabriel Walsh, Olivia focuses on the Larsens’ last crime, the one her birth mother swears will prove their innocence. But as she and Gabriel start investigating the case, Olivia finds herself drawing on abilities that have remained hidden since her childhood, gifts that make her both a valuable addition to Cainsville and deeply vulnerable to unknown enemies. Because there are darker secrets behind her new home, and powers lurking in the shadows that have their own plans for her.

My Thoughts
I think this book sounds awesome! Mystery, possible romance, and a paranormal twist is right up my alley. I may be biased because I am a huge fan of Kelley Armstrong's writing but, I can't wait for this one! August feels like it is so far away...

Is Love Vol. 1 by Nicole Sobon

Goodreads Summary:

IS LOVE is novelette series set in a world where natural love is forbidden. Girls are to be matched by the council in order to build a desirable society. Those who violate the Caiden Act are sentenced to live in the outer compounds, where the only thing that can save them is love.

There are a total of three novelettes, each around 10k words.

Volume 1 will release on January 21st, 2013.
Volume 2 will release on February 21st, 2013.
Volume 3 will release on March 21st, 2013.

My Review:
Is Love turned out to be quite different then I thought it would. This novelette is a quick action packed read. It takes place in a world where natural love is basically forbidden. Ridley and Kieran found love and tried to keep it hidden. Sadly, they were found out. The novelette starts out at Ridley's trial where they sentence her to two years in the compound.  The compounds are a place where people go to be punished. Sometimes they come back and sometimes they do but, they aren't the same. But, when Ridley arrives things are not as they seem to the rest of the world at the compounds. Kieran sadly is at a detention center which is known as a place of torture to the people. Ridley grapples with feelings of guilt and a broken heart. Will Ridley end up with her brain wiped and no memory of what true love can fee like? Or is there a way out?

Roslyn is Ridley's roommate in compound one. She fills Ridley in on what is really going on at the compounds. Memories are being wiped that way people can go back to Caiden and live their life again. The only problem is it hadn't been working. Jolene had the opposite reaction. Her memories were made stronger and she would do anything to get out. She ended up killing people. Ridley decides she needs to see this girl. However, on their way to break in something goes wrong. The Compound is now under attack and they have very little time to get away. That's where it ended! I have no idea what will happen next!

I can't wait for Vol 2. I am so glad that they are coming out monthly! It will be interesting to see how this story plays out!

Destroy Me by Tahereh Mafi

Goodreads Summary:

Perfect for the fans of Shatter Me who are desperately awaiting the release of Unravel Me, this novella-length digital original will bridge the gap between these two novels from the perspective of the villain we all love to hate, Warner, the ruthless leader of Sector 45.

In Tahereh Mafi’s Shatter Me, Juliette escaped from The Reestablishment by seducing Warner—and then putting a bullet in his shoulder. But as she’ll learn in Destroy Me, Warner is not that easy to get rid of. . .

Back at the base and recovering from his near-fatal wound, Warner must do everything in his power to keep his soldiers in check and suppress any mention of a rebellion in the sector. Still as obsessed with Juliette as ever, his first priority is to find her, bring her back, and dispose of Adam and Kenji, the two traitors who helped her escape. But when Warner’s father, The Supreme Commander of The Reestablishment, arrives to correct his son’s mistakes, it’s clear that he has much different plans for Juliette. Plans Warner simply cannot allow.

Set after Shatter Me and before its forthcoming sequel, Unravel Me, Destroy Me is a novella told from the perspective of Warner, the ruthless leader of Sector 45.

My Review:
I want to start by saying that I was not  a fan of Warner during Shatter Me. Although like most reviews I have read on this book I am starting to like Warner more. Destroy Me starts off after Juliette shot Warner. We finally get to learn more about Warner. He has been through quite a lot of bad things in his life. I can honestly say that when I started this I vowed I would not like Warner when I was done. But, after hearing about how he was raised and how terrible his father is, it made it hard not to like him. He is a victim of society and his father. Kind of like Juliette. I am really curious to see what his "power" turns out to be, if he actually has one that is.

I am undecided now if I like Adam or Warner more. It's a hard choice. I think Juliette could truly help Warner. That she could possibly even save him from himself. His feelings for her are so strong that they are borderline obsessive. Her diary is very special to him. He feels like she is made for him that they have a lot in common. It's true that they kind of are alike.

I feel bad for Warner. I hope that he gets his happy ending. That he could smile again and not feel bad about playing with a dog. Ugh! This makes it so hard to continue disliking Warner. I can't wait to get my hands on Unravel Me because I need to know what is going to happen!!

Review to come soon!

Goodreads Summary:

Sydney Harter has long awaited September 12th, 2033, her eighteenth birthday. She can finally apply for guardianship of her sister Evvie, her only family and entire world. Sydney holds a sliver of hope that they will be lawfully reunited, and that light will return to her desolate life, but she is prepared to defy authority and risk everything to escape Miles County so that she and Evvie can live full lives together.

Escaping will be difficult and dangerous. Citizens are bound to their county by sophisticated chip implants that deliver shocks to anyone who crosses the county's electric barrier. Sydney is very clever, but her trickery is limited against the all-seeing eyes of county technology. It seems impossible to escape into the forgotten forests and cities of the past, but Sydney is determined to find a way if she is denied guardianship of her sister. For years she has longed to break free from the government's experimental Petri Dish and the hallowed drones that inhabit it.

What Sydney doesn't know is that the county has particular interest in her. Her place in this complex dystopia is about to change. Deceit, fear, and warfare, will come to characterize her life, yet her love for Evvie will always prevail. She must protect her sister, but at what cost?

The Arrangement Vol. 2 ARC by H.M. Ward Review

Goodreads Summary:

Avery's life is slipping between her fingers. Everything that she worked to achieve will be gone if she doesn't take this job. The idea of being a call girl doesn't appeal to Avery, but her first client does. Sean is too difficult to resist. This might be the opportunity to fix her finances and find love. She just has to have enough guts to go through with it.

Genre: New Adult Romance
This story unfolds over multiple volumes approx. 20,000 words each.

My Review:
I was so excited to get Vol. 2 so quickly. Vol. 2 picks up right where Vol. 1 leaves off. Avery and Sean in the hotel room trying to decide what to do. Sadly this encounter does not end well. Interruptions can be such a pain in the butt. Especially when it's your boss. This for Avery are not looking good again. Sean doesn't want to give her another try and Avery is going to have to be with a different client. She is a trooper about it though. She is willing to give it a try. Then Avery runs into Sean at her old job and things change. He changes his mind and they kind of have a secret date. Since technically she isn't suppose to be with him outside of work.

During this installment when Avery and Sean were really together and cared for each other. Especially during the romantic times. They seemed like an actual couple. But, there are times during their encounters where Sean was a different person. A cold and distant guy who seemed like he didn't care. I am so curious as to why. I'm thinking someone must have broke his heart in a crazy bad way. But, I could be wrong. I have hope for these two but, I also think it will be a rough road.

I really enjoyed Avery's friend Marty. He was super funny and I love him! I just had to get that in here. Also I think it was about time Avery yelled at her crappy roommate! Need Vol. 3 as fast as I got Vol. 2!!!

Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Goodreads Summary:

Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl. . . .

Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future.

My Review:
I had wanted to read Cinder for a long time and I finally read it! I was pleasantly surprised by this one. I was worried that with all the hype it was going to be a let down. I was wrong. This was an awesome read! Cinder had somethings in common with Cinderella but, not as much as you would think. Cinder is a cyborg working as a mechanic for her "evil stepmother". There is more involved though in this story. It is futuristic and there is a plague running rampant killing humans. Then there's the looming threat of the Lunars. The people who have mutated after living on the moon. There is a lot going on in this story so keep that in mind :)

Cinder has a lot on her plate with...Price Kai's android, her sister getting the plague, and her horrible stepmother. After her sister gets sick her stepmother sends her in to be a test subject because she's a cyborg. When Cinder is faced with true death from the virus we learn a little bit more about Cinder and her past. Price Kai is already interested in her and now she has the capability of saving the planet. Will she put her life on the line for the one man she cares for? Will he still care after he finds out what she truly is?

Prince Kai is our potential love interest. He however does not know that Cinder is a cyborg rather then 100% human. Prince Kai has been looking for Lunar Princess who is rumored to be dead. Otherwise his only other option to maintain peace between Earth and The Moon is by marrying Queen Levana. This is dangerous because The Lunars have mysterious powers that allow them to put ideas into humans heads and make them do what the Lunar wants. Kai doesn't want to marry Levana but, it seems like the only option at this point. Cinder also makes this a hard decision because he likes her. However, secrets about who and what Cinder really is might tear them apart. I honestly am not sure what will happen between these two.

The story ends with Cinder being a prisoner when an unexpected visitor shows up. I have no idea what will happen in Scarlet (book 2) but, I can't wait to find out!

Crash by Lisa McMann

Goodreads Summary:

Jules lives with her family above their restaurant, which means she smells like pizza most of the time and drives their double-meatball-shaped food truck to school. It’s not a recipe for popularity, but she can handle that.

What she can’t handle is the recurring vision that haunts her. Over and over, Jules sees a careening truck hit a building and explode...and nine body bags in the snow.

The vision is everywhere—on billboards, television screens, windows—and she’s the only one who sees it. And the more she sees it, the more she sees. The vision is giving her clues, and soon Jules knows what she has to do. Because now she can see the face in one of the body bags, and it’s someone she knows. Someone she has been in love with for as long as she can remember.

In this riveting start to a gripping series from New York Times bestselling author Lisa McMann, Jules has to act—and act fast—to keep her vision from becoming reality.

My Review:
So I am a huge fan on Lisa McMann. Her writing is just plain awesome. When I heard she had a new series coming out and I saw the cover I immediately pre-ordered the book. I have not read one written by her that I didn't like. Crash is now part of that group of books from her that I love. First of all the cover is awesome! Anyway, Jules is not your  typical heroine in a story. She isn't popular in school or the beautiful cheerleader. She is her own person and I love it. She had these little sayings that she used a lot like "oh my dogs" which I really liked. She works in her families restaurant and is pretty close to her siblings. Her Dad has some issues. He is a hoarder and struggles with depression. Her grandfather had committed suicide. So she kind of has a lot to deal with just with all that. She has to drive a truck to school with giant meatballs on it, which was funny.

Jules also has an issue. She sees a vision of a car accident over and over again. She sees it on TV's, windows, computer screens, and advertising signs. Personally it would suck to not be able to watch TV or look at a computer screen without seeing a car crash into a building and then it explodes! The only good thing is I guess that she can slow the TV down and see more about the vision. She figures out where and when it will happen after many times of watching and deciphering. She also sees a face in one of the body bags and she knows who it is. She grapples with what to do. Does she try to stop it? Is she going crazy? Does she have more in common with her Dad then she thinks? How would she stop it? She risks a lot by telling the person in the body bag what is going on and what she has been seeing. That was such a brave thing to do. She put herself out there completely. She is such a strong  person and she doesn't even know it.

I really enjoyed the other characters too. Trey was an awesome big brother! He was there for Jules the whole time and tried to help her. Here sister Rowan is awesome too. They are a pretty great family. Minus her Dad. He cares but, goes about it the wrong way. Then there's the rival family the Angotti's. They have a the rival restaurant in town. The two families don't get along at all. But, Jules is hopelessly in love with one of them. Sawyer Angotti. They used to be friends but, when their families found out it was quickly put to an end. They haven't been friends for a long time but, Jules is still in love with him. A lot of crazy stuff happens between them in this story. I didn't like him at first but, when we find out the reason their families aren't friends it all makes sense and I liked him more after that. So, will Jules risk her life to save the one she loves?? Will love conquer even a family feud? You will have to read people!

The ending I didn't see coming at all. I can not wait for the next book, which comes out later this year. Another great start to what promises to be a great series!

Title: The Collector
Author: Victoria Scott
Release Date: April 2, 2013
Series Number: 1

Goodreads Summary:

He makes good girls...bad.

Dante Walker is flippin’ awesome, and he knows it. His good looks, killer charm, and stellar confidence has made him one of hell’s best—a soul collector. His job is simple, weed through humanity and label those round rears with a big, red good or bad stamp. Old Saint Nick gets the good guys, and he gets the fun ones. Bag-and-tag.

Sealing souls is nothing personal. Dante’s an equal opportunity collector and doesn’t want it any other way. But he’ll have to adjust, because Boss Man has given him a new assignment:

Collect Charlie Cooper’s soul within 10 days.

Dante doesn’t know why Boss Man wants Charlie, nor does he care. This assignment means only one thing to him, and that’s a permanent ticket out of hell. But after Dante meets the quirky, Nerd Alert chick he’s come to collect—he realizes this assignment will test his abilities as a collector, and uncover emotions deeply buried.

My Thoughts:
This one just sounds good. Hot guy/soul collector. Sounds like something I would read haha. Lets face it I am a sucker for a nerdy girl getting the hot guy. I don't know if that is what happens but, I hope it does. Have any of you heard of this one or been able to read it early?

Then Allie is forced to flee into the unknown, outside her city walls. There she joins a ragged band of humans who are seeking a legend--a possible cure to the disease that killed off most of humankind and created the rabids, the mindless creatures who threaten humans and vampires alike.

But it isn't easy to pass for human. Especially not around Zeke, who might see past the monster inside her. And Allie soon must decide what--and who--is worth dying for.

My Review:
I have wanted to read this book forever! I loved the cover it is absolutely amazing. I finally got it for Christmas and dove right in. The story is unlike many of the vampire stories out there. This is not an Edward kind of vampire. This is how I imagine vampires if the existed. Viscous night lurking creatures who have to feed on humans, not animals to survive. Allie starts out human. As an unregistered human living in the outlying area of a New Covington, a vampire city. She scavenges for the little food that is available and her treasures include books that she has had her whole life. Her life takes a turn for the worst when her and her friends go out to gather food and are attacked by rabids. The mutated humans/animals who are blood thirsty monsters. She is left dying on the road when a passing vampire gives her a choice. Become a vampire or die. She chooses to become the thing that she hates most....a vampire.

Allies life as a vampire is hard at first as it should be. Her sire Kanin helps her learn what it means to be a vampire who doesn't live in the city. They have to feed off humans and try to not leave a trail. She learns to fight and use her new strength and power against her enemies. Kanin keeps a lot of secrets. He used to be a vampire master. He had to escape his own people for allowing research to be done on fellow vampires to try to cure the disease raging the Earth. He continues to search for answers up until he is kidnapped  This leaves Allie on her own to escape the city and find a new place to call home. She eventually runs into a group of humans and tries to blend in. They are unaware that she is a vampire. She gets attached to them and especially Zeke. Zeke is the second in command of the group behind Jeb. Zeke is somewhat of a love interest here. The cute human who is nice to Allie. Don't get me wrong this is not an Edward and Bella love story. This is how it would really be. Anyway, they have been searching for years for Eden. A place free of disease and vampires. They have been searching for years.

Everything is going ok until Allie is outed as a vampire. She is then shunned from the group and is forced to leave. I loved that she continued to stay with the group hiding in the shadows to protect them. She is trying to hang on to what is left of her humanity. She can chose what kind of monster to be. Things change yet again when the group is taken by King Jackels raiders. Allie saves who she can but, not everyone lives. Her and Zeke have to find a way to trust each other and rescue the survivors. This proves difficult. The raider city is huge and Jackel is truly evil. They took Jeb because he holds research to finding the cure. Allie learns about her vampire family here as well. She learns that the dreams she has been having are actually through Kanins eyes and he is being tortured. Allie has a tough decision to make. Does she stay with her humans until they are safe in Eden or does she go find Kanin and do what she can. There are a lot of obstacles for her. She is again alone to start a journey with no leads.

This is how the world would be if vampires were truly around. the way the author describes everything and builds this world is outstanding. The review is hard because there was so much information in this book. It was an amazing start to what will be a great series I have no doubt. I can't wait to see how Allie's life progresses. So many questions left. Will she save Kanin? Will she ever see Zeke again?
