Stacking the Shelves

Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. It is hosted by Tynga's Reviews. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

It's been a while but, I am back! I have transitioned into a new job at work and it has been very hard to even work and live out. I have been doing a lot of overtime and have even less time to blog. Which i am not happy about. I am making an effort to do a much better job! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!

Goodreads Summary:
Cain Bonham is as big and bad as they come. After serving in the Marines, he’s returned home to Wyoming and now works as head of security at the exclusive sex club, The Wicked Horse. His job is to protect not only the patrons, but to zealously guard the secret existence of the club itself.

Sloane Preston is all about discovering secrets. As an undercover reporter, she’s determined to reveal the truth behind the facade of The Wicked Horse and expose it for all the world to see. She just didn’t count on her pathway into the club coming at the hands of one gorgeously scarred and bad ass bouncer who manages to easily possess her body and soul.

While Cain’s not looking for anyone to catch his eye, Sloane did it all the same, and he’s not bemoaning the fact that she’s as wickedly kinky as he is. As both get caught up in the sinful fantasies that only The Wicked Horse can create, secrets and loyalties will be tested and hearts will risk being broken.

**Warning: this book has sex in it. Lots of sex. Dirty sex. The Wicked Horse Series is a bit different than what Sawyer Bennett normally writes. While you’ll still enjoy fabulous characters, a suspenseful story, some witty banter and an epic romance, there’s just… a lot of sex. You’ve been warned.

Goodreads Summary:
Experience the epic love story of OBSIDIAN as told by its hero, Daemon Black…

I knew the moment Katy Swartz moved in next door, there was going to be trouble. Lots of it.

And trouble’s the last thing I need, since I’m not exactly from around here. My people arrived on Earth from Lux, a planet thirteen billion light years away. Plus, if there’s one thing I know, it’s that humans can’t be trusted. We scare them. We can do things they only dream about, and honestly, we make them look weak as hell. ‘Cuz they are.

But Kat is getting to me in ways no one else has, and I can't stop myself from wanting her—or wanting to use my powers to protect her. She makes me weak, and I’m the strongest of our kind, tasked with protecting us all. So this one simple girl…she can mean the end for us. Because the Luxen have an even bigger enemy—the Arum, and I need to stay on my game.

Falling for Katy—a human—won't just place her in danger. It could get us all killed, and that’s one thing I’ll never let happen...

Goodreads Summary:
A MASTERPIECE OF TERROR AND SUSPENSE FROM #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR KELLEY ARMSTRONG.

Riley Vasquez is haunted by the brutal murder of the couple she was babysitting for.

Max Cross is suffering under the shadow of a life-altering diagnosis he doesn’t dare reveal.

The last thing either of them wants is to spend a weekend away at a therapy camp alongside five other teens with “issues.” But that’s exactly where they are when three masked men burst in to take the group hostage.

The building has no windows. The exits are sealed shut. Their phones are gone. And their captors are on a killing spree.

Riley and Max know that if they can’t get out, they’ll be next—but they’re about to discover that even escape doesn’t equal freedom.

Goodreads Summary:
This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do.

This afternoon, her planet was invaded.

The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.

But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet's AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it's clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she'd never speak to again.

Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents—including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more—Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.

Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

Title: Truthwitch
Author: Susan Dennard
Series Number: 1
Release Date: January 5, 2016

Goodreads Summary:
On a continent ruled by three empires, some are born with a “witchery”, a magical skill that sets them apart from others.

In the Witchlands, there are almost as many types of magic as there are ways to get in trouble—as two desperate young women know all too well.

Safiya is a Truthwitch, able to discern truth from lie. It’s a powerful magic that many would kill to have on their side, especially amongst the nobility to which Safi was born. So Safi must keep her gift hidden, lest she be used as a pawn in the struggle between empires.

Iseult, a Threadwitch, can see the invisible ties that bind and entangle the lives around her—but she cannot see the bonds that touch her own heart. Her unlikely friendship with Safi has taken her from life as an outcast into one of reckless adventure, where she is a cool, wary balance to Safi’s hotheaded impulsiveness.

Safi and Iseult just want to be free to live their own lives, but war is coming to the Witchlands. With the help of the cunning Prince Merik (a Windwitch and ship’s captain) and the hindrance of a Bloodwitch bent on revenge, the friends must fight emperors, princes, and mercenaries alike, who will stop at nothing to get their hands on a Truthwitch.

My Thoughts:
I apologize, I have been absent a lot lately. Work at the end of the year has me doing a crap ton of overtime and the holiday has me pretty busy too. I am trying to get back into things! This is a book I have been seeing around a lot lately. I love the cover and can't wait to get my hands on it.

ARC Review of Twas the Knight before Christmas by M. Clarke

Goodreads Summary:
***This is a novella. Please Read Something Great (FREE), Something Wonderful, and Something Forever FIRST or can be read after Something Amazing and Something Precious***

Twas the Knight before Christmas, when all through Max and Matthew’s house
Not a creature was stirring?—but not in these boys’ family house;
Stress, deadlines, and naughty children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar plums did NOT dance in their heads,
When they met with obstacles, mounted to the sky,
Could they overcome the hurdles before time flies?
When what to their wondering dreamy brown eyes did appear,
But peace, harmony, and calmness, my dears.
And all was right in the land of Knights.

Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!

My Review:
I love Christmas. So it's pretty easy to guess that I love books that involve Christmas and some of my favorite characters! Christmas is right around the corner. Needless to say, the Knight brothers have a very buys Christmas ahead of them. They are both Fathers now and have a lot of pressure on them. Not only with Christmas but, scandal in the business is brewing. Perfect timing right. As if the holiday was not stressful enough. Add in scandal and you are looking at a possible break down. Will these families get the Merry Christmas they are looking for?

I loved Jenna and Becky. Through it all they are still besties. Even though their lives are more complicated now they still try to make time for each other. Friends forever! It makes it nice when you are married to brothers too. Luckily for Jenna and Becky, their husbands have very active sexual appetites as well. They still have seriously hot husbands who worship them. It's the life we all wish for. Love, family, and super hot husbands!

I love when we get glimpses into the future lives of the characters well love. This book was just that. At a time of the year that is about family and love. They have a little conflict, just enough to make it interesting. It all comes down to our core values during the holiday. Love and family. This one is a must read!

ARC Review of Broken Promises by H. M. Ward

Goodreads Summary:
When Celebrity Magazine declares rock star Trystan Scott the sexiest man alive, I'm not surprised. How can anyone claim otherwise about those blazing blue eyes, rock-hard abs, dark hair, and a totally lickable dimple?

Before the billionaire playboy rose to stardom, we were friends for a while and lovers for a night. Though that was nearly a decade ago, our connection burns brightly in my memory. We weren't a one night stand, not to me.

I can admit it--I got played. To him, I was just another conquest. My beautiful best friend is long gone, and I've moved on. But when fate forces us to meet face to face, everything I felt for him comes rushing back.

Trystan is crashing and burning fast. The press flock like vultures, waiting for him to kill himself or worse. Either way, his mistakes earn them millions.

One night, one time, one word is all it takes to wash away a decade of reason and regret. One secret threatens to push him six feet under, and, when those beautiful eyes turn to me for help, how can I say no?

My Review:
I have been waiting for the conclusion of Trystan's story forever!!!! I was in love with his story. His teenage hears with Mari were seriously some of my favorite books of all time. A lot of time has passed for these two. After Trystan broke Mari's heart they went their separate ways and started living their own lives. Trystan as a rock star and Mari as a doctor. When one fateful night they are re-united. Not in the way your thinking either. In a way that seriously had me questioning how the book was going to go. After the initial shock faded I really got into the book. The other series by H.M. Ward where Trystan appears had me soooo curious as to what happened to these two and we finally get to find out! Can Mari ever trust Trystan again or will he always be the love of her life that broke her?

The relationship these two had was so beautiful. Built on trust and love that I thought couldn't be broken. I was wrong. Trystan did a pretty terrible thing to Mari. She didn't deserve it and it's pretty obvious she never got over it. It still plagues her everyday. She is trying to move on with her life, even has fallen for a new man. A man she "loves". A man who looks a lot like Trystan! Mari and Trystan have some moments. Moments that made me long for their past relationship. I give a lot of credit to Trystan, he held back in situations that I was begging him to push forward! They have some come to Jesus conversations and decide to just be friends. Which is not easy for either of them or Mari's boyfriend.

I went back and forth between Mari's boyfriend throughout the book. I liked him, then I didn't, then I liked him again, then I didn't. Back and forth the whole time. He was a rock stuck in a hard place. How do you compete with someone's soul mate? By the end I really didn't like him. The side story with Mari's room mate was great and I loved it. It added so much to the story.

This book was an emotional roller coaster. I experienced so many emotions. There were a lot of curve balls too. I was like OMG WHAT!!!!???? There may not be a cliffhanger but, H.M. Ward can still leave you shocked. I am sad that this story has ended and I hope we still get to see Mari and Trystan in other book series. This series will always have a special place in my heart!
